Marvel Comics has announced that “Get On Up” actor Chadwick Boseman will play superhero Black Panther, which will make Boseman the first African-American to lead a stand alone tentpole Marvel film.

President of Marvel Entertainment Kevin Feige announced the film would hit theater November 3, 2017 and while other actors also auditioned for the role (Michael Jai White was also a strong contender) Boseman won the coveted prize.

Created by Stan Lee in the 1950s, Black Panther was the first African-American superhero to be portrayed in mainstream comic books. Also known as T’Challa, Black Panther is a brilliant scientist with heightened senses and physical abilities.
