Lauryn Hill performed at the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans last Saturday night but showed up 45 minutes late to her hour-long slot. As a result of this, management at the festival abruptly cut Ms. Hill’s performance short. Half way through “Ready Or Not,” Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” filled the speakers, drowning out Hill before the lights were lowered on stage.

According to Billboard, instead of being unhappy with Ms. Hill, fans were more unhappy with the Voodoo Festival team’s decision, saying that management “disrespected the artist.” Hill was given another set later on a smaller stage, to which she was 45 minutes late again. Fans who had waited around began to boo, while others decided to leave. When she did appear on stage, however, her remaining audience received her second performance well, though she never directly addressed her lateness.

“Thank you so much for coming back y’all,” she said.
