3 of SVG’s leading Soca artistes are currently prepping to compete in the semifinal round of the International Soca Monarch competition, to be held in Trinidad this Sunday (Jan 25th)!

SVG’s Road March and Soca Monarch winner 2014, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper, will be competing in position number 4 of the Groovy Soca Monarch semifinals with ‘Rum Meeting,’ and position number 8 of the Power Soca Monarch semifinals with ‘Unruly.’
SVG’s former Soca Monarch Title Holder and 2014’s 2nd place winner, Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle is competing in position number 30 of the Groovy Soca Monarch semifinals with ‘Going Off’ and position number 14 of the Power Soca Monarch semifinals with ‘Flatten.’
Fya Empress, who placed placed third in Vincy Mas 2014 Ragga Soca competition will compete in position number 29 of the Power Soca Monarch semifinal with “Mo’ Bacchanal.”

Speaking on the progress of ongoing preparations, each camp stated that they are pumped and ready to take the stage. They expressed confidence in their songs and presentations and are prepared to put their best foot forward.

Some Vincentians, however, seem concerned about whether that is enough and the debate on whether the competition is fair, is an ongoing one.

Every year, we (SVG), send our top Soca artistes to Trinidad to compete against the Caribbean’s best, in a competition that is predominantly Trinidadian and we have always made our mark as one of the strongest contenders on the International Soca Monarch stage.
This year will be no different. With three of our most consistent artistes competing, there are no doubts that we will be represented on the International Soca Monarch stage.
History was made in Trinidad, in 2007, with Biggie Irie being the first non national to take the International Soca Monarch title. History has not been repeated since then and as always, the question of whether a non-national artiste would ever once again be awarded that title arises. There is no way of knowing the real answer to this question, however, with three of our very best, on the frontline, St. Vincent undoubtedly has the ability to take that title. Regardless, we can guarantee that our presence will be acknowledged, our statements will be made and we will continue to maintain our place within the top ranks of the International Soca Monarch competition.

Fireman, Skinny Fabulous and Fya Empress have all entered into the International Soca Monarch Breakout Artiste competition, a competition with the objective of highlighting the rising prominence of artiste talent in the Soca Music Industry.
