Kendrick Lamar’s first week album sales are in and (as to be expected) To Pimp A Butterfly is sitting comfortably in the number one spot.

According to Hits Daily Double, Mr. King Kunta moved 318, 988 copies his first week, making the record Kendrick’s first number one album. While 2012’s good kid, m A.A.d city was considered by many to be hip-hop gold, the album, which boasted hits such as “Swimming Pools” and “Poetic Justice” sold 242,000 landing at number two on the Billboard charts.

The 16-track project, filled with jazz, funk, spoken word, also made history by being streamed more than 9.3 million times on Spotify.

Kendrick may have taken the number one spot, but the Empire cast soundtrack is at number two selling 86,513 copies and Mrs. “Shake It Off” herself, Taylor Swift is still holding strong at number seven with her platinum selling album 1989.

While no one ’round these parts is surprised the Grammy winner’s latest LP is number one, we’re all very happy for the Compton kid.
