Missy “The Misdemeanor” Elliott is back and she’s better than ever. As she makes her rounds on the hype off of her latest hit “WTF” featuring Pharrell, the multitalented artist dishes on her comeback after taking herself out of the game especially following a Graves disease diagnosis in 2008. In Billboard’s newest issue (Nov. 28), the legend answers all questions that many were wondering leading up to her comeback.

“People hadn’t realized that I haven’t just been an artist,” Elliott expresses. “I’ve been a writer and a producer for other artists. When you’re writing that much, your brain is like a computer. You have refresh it.” So even when you didn’t see Missy out in public, she was still in the booth readying up new material for when this day came to be welcomed with open arms with her eclectic style and music.

With such a unique approach to her artistry, Elliott didn’t shy away from saying that she thinks that a lot of today’s music tends to all blend together in terms of sound and doesn’t differentiate themselves from each other. But with her return to the music game, she’s making sure to remind those that she may be imitated but never duplicated. “Unfortunately, breaking news, there is only one Missy,” she confidently shares.
