If there’s one thing Erykah Badu knows how to do better than many, it’s evolve as a musician while staying in tune with the hottest sounds & artists around.

After setting the web ablaze with over 2 million plays of her “Hotline Bling (Remix),” — which is now been dubbed “Cel U Lar Device” — the “6 God” aka Drake decided to catch up with his good friend and return the love on one of two new tracks off Badu’s newly released project, But You Cain’t Use My Phone.

On the minute-long interlude, “U Used to Call Me,” Drake shares a short and sweet verse highlighting his “recognition from a Great,” how he was “supposed to drop on Halloween” and his appreciation for the real friends who’ve been there since Day One. Later in the project, Drizzy returns for her “Medley: What’s Yo Phone Number.” Never losing sight of her roots and the hip-hop Texas sounds, Badu adds a filling chopped and screwed rendition of her J. Dilla tribute song, “Telephone,” off of her 2008 album New Amerykah, Pt. 1.

During an in-person mixtape listening session, Badu shared with VIBE that although the mixtape was recorded, mixed and mastered by Zach Witness in a span of 11 days at her Dallas home, every guest appearance on the project was “recorded in person.” Above all, But You Cain’t Use My Phone was A&R’d by her eldest 18 year old son, Seven.
