JAMAICAN producer Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston is featured on Billboard’s current number two album, Islah by American rapper Kevin Gates.

The 15-track set is Gates’s debut work and is a joint release by Bread Winners Association/Dead Game Records. Released on January 29, Islah is distributed by Atlantic Records.

“I take it as a great accomplishment, as a Jamaican and also as a music producer, because it is out of my box as far as the genre is concerned,” Rvssian told the Jamaica Observer.

Johnston produced the single The Truth, which was released as the third single from the album.

The album Islah debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 album chart, number two on the R&B Hip Hop album chart, and number one on the Rap Album chart. It contains the smash singles Really Really and 2 Phones.

In its first week sales Islah posted over 112,000 copies in sales. The album sits behind Barbados-born singer Rihanna’s ANTI.

Rvssian recently signed Belizean singer King Ko$a to his Head Concussion label. His first single Type of Girl, slated to be released tomorrow, will feature Gates.

This is not Johnston’s first foray outside dancehall. Last March, he earned a platinum plaque for his work on the reggaeton track Passion Whine.
