George Martin, the Beatles’ producer who quietly guided the band’s swift, historic transformation from rowdy club act to musical and cultural revolutionaries, has died, his management said today. He was 90.
“We can confirm that Sir George Martin passed away peacefully at home yesterday evening,” Adam Sharp, a founder of CA Management, said in an email.
Sharp called Martin “one of music’s most creative talents and a gentleman to the end.”
“In a career that spanned seven decades he was an inspiration to many and is recognized globally as one of music’s most creative talents,” Sharp said.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr tweeted: “God bless George Martin peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara. George will be missed.”

Lawyers for Bobbi Kristina Brown’s partner on Tuesday called on a prosecutor to tell the public she wasn’t murdered.
Joe Habachy and Jose Baez, attorneys for Nick Gordon, released a statement calling on Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard to acknowledge there was no evidence of wrongdoing in Brown’s death.
“Frankly, the right thing for the District Attorney’s office to do right now is to tell the public the truth … that this was an accident … or even a suicide, but not a murder,” the statement says. “And the right thing for everyone to do is let Nick live his life now and let Bobbi Kristina rest in peace.”
Howard spokeswoman Claire LaBriola said in an email that the district attorney had no comment. Howard said last week his office’s investigation into Brown’s death would continue.

A judge has dismissed a drug conviction of the son of actor Robert Downey Jr.
City News Service says a Los Angeles judge wiped Indio Downey’s guilty plea to cocaine possession from the criminal record on Tuesday after he successfully completed an 18-month diversion program.
The 22-year-old was arrested about two years ago in West Hollywood, California.
Robert Downey Jr., who also struggled with drug abuse and wound up in prison before going sober, issued a statement after the arrest saying that his son may have inherited a genetic component of addiction.
