On the subject of the ongoing controversy surrounding American football star Colin Kaepernick and his refusal to stand during the national anthem, Lil Wayne feels unfit to comment on the matter.

While being a guest on Fox Sports 1, Lil Wayne claimed that he cannot relate to the issues that Kaepernick is protesting against.

“I have no opinion on it because I’m not into it enough to even give an opinion,” he said. He also mentioned that he didn’t quite understand Kaepernick’s reason for choosing to protest in the first place. “That whole wave went by me too fast.”

“God knows I have been nothing but blessed,” Lil Wayne added. “My whole path these 33 years have been nothing but a blessing. I have never, and never is a strong word, never dealt with racism and I’m glad I didn’t have to. I don’t know if it’s because of my blessings but it is my reality.”

Lil Wayne, while commenting on the racial diversity present at his shows, mused that he’d assumed the United States had put its racist past away for good. For him, any sort of protest goes back to his children.
