Police in Pennsylvania report 34-year-old Robert Napolitan has been charged with burglary among other offences after he stole 300,000 pennies from his employer.

The accused allegedly loaded a drum of pennies weighing 1,600 pounds onto a truck, rolling the drum into his Jeep afterwards. The drum, according to police, was used by the company owner as a sort of giant piggy bank, being the place where he stored his spare pennies.

What gave Napolitan away was a combination of tracks through the dust and a Hansel and Gretel-esque trail of pennies. When police searched the accused’s Jeep, pennies were found underneath the vehicle’s seats and floor mats. Napolitan admitted to taking the drum and is now in jail and on $50,000 bail.
