At the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards, Snoop Dogg was honored with the “I Am Hip Hop” award and he felt extremely blessed about it.

Kendrick Lamar honored his OG and so did other music heads including Dr. Dre, YG, Pharrell Williams, Charlie Wilson, and more in an intro video. When speaking about Snoop’s influence, Pharrell said that the MC made “you wonder what the West coast was really like. He was just an incredible storyteller.”

Dre also added that Snoop really is hip hop culture because it’s “just who he is. He eats, sleeps and breathes hip hop.”

As the honoree got onstage and accepted his honor, Snoop made a point to say, “I’m just thankful to be in a position to speak to people” and also commented with relief that he wasn’t an “old, bitter” rapper “who’s angry at younger rappers” today, whose styles are different from those who came before them.

This was definitely Snoop’s way of blasting MCs his age who judge the youth’s new rap styles, the same way they were judged by older generations.
He closed by once again thanking BET for the honor and simply saying “I love hip hop,” as tears visibly formed in his eyes.
