While Donald Trump is busy planning his transition into the White House come January, Melania reportedly won’t be making that move with him. The first lady-elect and her son Barron Trump will not live in the White House during her husband’s presidency as is tradition.

Melania and Barron will reportedly stay at their penthouse apartment in Trump Tower in New York City so that Barron can continue his education at his private school in the city, according to The New York Post. “Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” a source told the Post. “The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.” While her life will continue in New York, the future first lady will travel to Washington D.C. as she is needed.

The living arrangement is only temporary however. NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell tweeted today that Melania and Barron will eventually move into the White House at the end of the school year in June 2017 to join Trump. Due to their circumstances, the Trump family will require heavy security in and around the Trump Tower and will escort Melania to and from Washington throughout the presidency. Communications director Jason Miler also spoke briefly about the arrangement early Sunday morning, telling reporters that Trump’s transition team would be releasing a formal statement on the matter fairly soon.
