Legendary comedian Martin Lawrence will be honored in the upcoming “Hip Hop Honors” award show, presented by VH1.

This year’s show is called “The 90’s Game Changers” and will celebrate the artists, actors and influencers of that decade.

“Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it’s an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music,” Martin Lawrence said in a statement to Billboard.

Martin Lawrence definitely blew up off the back of hip-hop.

In addition to being one of the top draws of Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, Martin was featured in Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” (1989) and The Hudlin Brother’s hip-hop classic, “House Party.”
