Directly following the introduction of the Under Armour HOVR Phantom, the global sportswear giant jump-starts the campaign for its next major shoe, the Curry 5.

Dubbed the Curry 5 “Pi Day,” the arrival of Under Armour‘s latest effort coincides with Stephen Curry‘s birthday — he’s turning 30 — and Pi Day. Combining influences from both, Under Armour is delivering 314 pairs of this iteration today; the shoe is also directly inspired by the ancient Pi equation of “squaring the circle” and the desire to give Curry the support necessary to “achieve the impossible” on the basketball court. Continuing the “Pi” theme, this Black/Metallic Iron colorway features the symbol, numbers of Pi, “3.14.18” and the Pi number sequence at different points on the shoe.

“The Curry 5 embodies Stephen and the idea of being wired different; what it means to achieve the impossible, to break the mathematical norm and expectations of what a basketball player can be,” reads a statement from Under Armour.
