One of SVG’s top female artist and soca monarch contenders will not be taking part in the festivities or competition this year. According to a press release issued by her publicist, Fya Empress is currently under bed-rest after undergoing a major surgical procedure.

See press release below:

It is with great sadness that we wish to notify the public that Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd will be unable to indulge in St. Vincent’s 2018 Carnival activities. This decision is a direct result of a medical condition that was revealed on May 25th 2018 while in the USA. Following the advice of her doctor, a major surgical procedure was performed on June 06th with her being discharged on June 09th.
The procedure requires Nedd to be on bed-rest for 4-6 weeks with the possibility of additional days being added after her scheduled post-op appointment on June 29th 2018. This operation has, in a huge way, hampered her preparations for the carnival season and as such she will be unavailable to participate in this year’s carnival activities.
As an entertainer, there is nothing that she enjoys more than participating in activities related to her culture.
As Fya Empress places her energy on recuperating, she extends her well wishes to the Carnival Development Committee, the Calypsonian Association, Vincentian artistes, patrons and supporters.
