Motherhood has proven to be a life-changing experience for sports legend Serena Williams, as she is considering hanging up her tennis racket to expand her family.

Having returned to the court only 5 months after her daughter Alexis Olympia was born in 2017, Serena’s contemplation of retirement to have more children is truly shocking. However, she goes on to explain why she might make this drastic decision in an interview with InStyle magazine where she states; “If I weren’t working, I’d already be pregnant. The only rule I have at practice is to be done at 1 p.m. because as much as I love tennis, I need to be with her [Alexis].” This shows how invested Serena is as a parent and how dedicated she is with her child.

Given her working hours, Serena has realized that if she wants more children her hours may not allow her to be as present in her kids lives as she would like. Serena endured hematoma and blood clots in her lungs resulting in her having to take the C-section route when delivering Alexis Olympia. She’s also been vocal about her postpartum depression, calling for more healthcare reform for mothers across the country, neither of which is stopping her from wanting to have more children.

“I definitely want two [kids], God willing,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “But right now, I want tennis as well. So, I’m going to wait and see what happens. It’s definitely not easy, I have this undying drive to be the best that I can be. Whether it’s [being] a mom or playing tennis or doing my designing. I just want to do the best that I can.”

Serena Williams has proven to us time and time again that she can do it all but will she return to the court? Whatever she chooses to do, the tennis superstar has our undeniable support.
