Real Madrid has confirmed rumors that were swirling the web about the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Spanish club.

Real Madrid released a statement expressing that, at the 33-year-old’s request, Madrid agreed to sell him to Juventus, the perennial Italian champion, for €100 million EUR (approximately $117 million USD), the exact same fee that was paid to extract him from Manchester United nine years, four Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, and 451 goals ago.

“Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has made this one of the most brilliant times in the history of our club,” Real wrote in a statement.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of our greatest symbols and a unique reference for our next generations. Real Madrid will always be your home.”

Ronaldo, who is currently on vacation in Greece, wrote in an open letter on Real Madrid’s website expressing his gratitude to the fans, players, coaches, doctors, physiotherapists, directors and others.

“Real Madrid has conquered my heart,” he said.

He acknowledged that he asked the club to allow him to leave because felt it was time to “open a new stage” in his life.

“It has been very nice to be at Real Madrid,” he said.

“In the next few days I will give an answer to the fans, because they have always been on my side.” he added.
