Beyonce recently opened up about how difficult her pregnancy was with the twins, Sir and Rumi, in her cover story for Vogue’s September issue.

Bey shares that her life as well as the twins’ were in great danger and Jay stood by her side through it all. In the story, Bey explains that she was on bed rest for a month when she gave birth to the twins. Weighing 218 pounds, the R&B star was swollen from toxemia. Beyonce was forced to undergo an emergency C-section and spent many weeks in NICU, where Jay-Z was by her side.

“My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me,” Bey shared. “I am proud to have been a witness to his strength and evolution as a man, a best friend, and a father. I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later.”

Up next for the couple, they will continue their On the Run II Tour. The duo kicked off the North American leg of the trek on July 25 in Cleveland and will continue touring through Oct. 4.
