September marks the beginning of the new school year here in SVG but some parents are struggling a bit in our country to provide the basic necessities for the kids to head back to school.

Thankfully, some business places have reached into their pockets and are assisting such parents. It warms my heart to share that some of these businesses are small businesses like Logistics Plus Inc. located in Marcol Plaza, Kingstown. The Managing Director of Logistics Plus Inc. J-Kwon Freeman came up with the idea of a ‘Random Act Of Kindness’ following an encounter earlier this year. J-Kwon expressed, “we must look to assist those kids who at times face difficulties of one kind or another in attending school, or which affects their ability to attend school.”

He also understood that such a program would require a collaborative effort, “We will have to partner with other business people in St. Vincent (and the Grenadines) for the today there are parents who are unable to meet their responsibilities through no fault of theirs. It is just that they are unable to have what is needed,” he stated. J-Kwon in turn reached out to other business places to assist him with this ‘Random Act Of Kindness’. Some of the places he reached out to assisted by providing notebooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, bags, water bottles, shoes, hair cuts and many other needs to Logistics Plus Inc., to the value of almost EC$2,000.00, “to ease the strain on parents.”

The Head of Operations at Logistics Plus Inc. Mrs Shennika Simmons explained the movement further by saying, “The Random Act of Kindness is a gesture geared towards giving back to the society’s children. Our motto at Logistics Plus is that we are small enough to care and big enough to deliver. Although we are a young company, we were able to search around and find children to whom we have been able to extend our care for by trying to meet their simple needs and assisting them to go back to school. Seeing smiles upon the children and parents faces brought such joy to our hearts, we could tell how happy they were, to be able to receive such kindness geared towards them.”

Hopefully, more businesses would join together with this ‘Random Act Of Kindness’ so they can extend their charitable donations to more students in the future. Four grateful students along with their parents received assistance so far.
