Samantha J, the ‘tight up skirt’ dance hall artist recently opened up about the reason why she’s been dormant from dance hall for the past 5 years.

According to Sam, the record label she was signed to, Columbia Records, limited her in many ways. She claims that the recording company decided who she could record with and what particular sound she could go for. The singer revealed that after signing with the major label she had to relocate to the United States, where she spent several years recording and touring but hardly had an opportunity to go home to Jamaica.

The singer has since revealed that she is now signed to an independent label, which handles her licenses in the US while also recently signing to Sony Norway, which handles her distribution in that country. The new move means the Jamaican superstar is now free to collaborate with whomever she chooses as well as put out more of the sound fans came to know her for in the initial stages. Samantha J has recently put out several new tracks including collaborations with dance hall artists Gyptian and Tommy Lee which have been well received by fans since their releases.
