SVG’s Prime Minister announced during his Independence speech on Saturday (October 27), that our nation will be sending support to Trinidad in the form of USD $40,000 aimed towards T&T’s flood relief.

During his speech at Victoria Park, Hon. Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves stated that, “St. Vincent and the Grenadines stand in solidarity with all who suffer from the scourge of climate change.” Standing by his statement, the PM went on to mention, “our Cabinet approved the sum of US$40,000 as a mark of our solidarity with the people of Trinidad and Tobago consequent on the terrible floods which have recently afflicted them.” Heavy rain showers between October 18-19 in Trinidad and Tobago, initiated flooding in low lying areas of Trinidad which resulted in extensive damages to properties on the island.

Other countries have also reached out to Trinidad and Tobago to assist with flood relief. Celebrities, including Trini-native, Nicki Minaj vowed to aid the country as well. “Trinidad, I am working on getting many different resources to you now. Fay-Ann & I have been communicating non stop. I will let you know exactly who I’m donating the funds to & hope to be with you very soon. I Love you. We will get through this,” Nicki tweeted.
