Missy Elliott keeps breaking barriers while making history, and her latest nomination is no exception to her list of achievements.

Missy’s name is among the list of songwriters nominated to be a part of the Songwriter Hall Of Fame, making her the first female rapper to be nominated for the award. The ceremony that will mark the award’s 50th anniversary is set to take place on the 13th June, 2019, in New York. In order to be eligible for this nomination, songwriters must have produced hit after hit for the past 20 years, which Missy undoubtedly did. The other nominees eager to grab this award are: Mariah Carey, Dallas Austin, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart.

Missy became a member of Devante Swing’s Swing Mob in the early 90s and she has since been a force in the music game. After departing Swing Mob, she helped formulate the late Aaliyah and Ginuwine’s sound along with Timbaland. Over time, Missy would go on to work with Destiny’s Child, Whitney Houston and Ciara.

Missy took to Twitter to express how honored she is that she has been nominated for this award. Her tweet can be viewed below.
