The Caribbean Tourism Organisation developed the concept of the ‘Junior Minister Of Tourism’ back in 2002 to encourage youths in CTO member countries to compete for a chance to be their country’s youth ambassador, and now 16 years later, Laron Jones holds the spot for SVG’s Junior Minister of Tourism.

Laron Jones is currently in his fifth year at the St. Vincent Grammar School and has made SVG proud through his presentation at the Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress this year. Laron’s presentation that was shared under the title, ‘A New You In 32,’ zoomed in on how SVG will deliver ‘wellness and rejuvenation,’ as this year’s CTO topic suggests. This year’s Congress was held last month (October) in The Bahamas and as a result, Jones was chaperoned by Head of the English Department at the St. Vincent Grammar School, Caron Bucchan.

Chief Operating Officer of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, Faylene King, served as the country coordinator for the Youth Congress. Laron opened his presentation by saying, “The year 2018 has been declared as the year of wellness and rejuvenation in the Caribbean and that is exactly what St. Vincent and the Grenadines will deliver; a healthy, rejuvenated you. My Ministry is cognizant of the fact that the Caribbean and in particular our 32 islands and cays are ideally positioned as wellness destinations.” A total of 18 youths ranging between the ages of 14-17 took part in this years Congress.
