Instagram users have just been treated to a new way of sending messages which comes straight from WhatsApp’s list of features.

Sending a note to friends via a voice recording has been something WhatsApp fans have been able to do for a while but this option is now coming to Instagram.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Instagram revealed: “Starting today, you can send voice messages in Direct.

“Talk the way you want to be heard, whether by whispering what you’re up to or shouting a compliment.”

The Instagram update is being rolled out across the globe with users expected to receive the voice messaging option in the coming days

To check if your version is of Instagram is ready to be updated simply head to the App Store on your device and check for the latest app updates.

Once your phone has downloaded the very latest version of Instagram you should then see a new microphone icon appear within your direct messages window.

To send a recording simply press this symbol to record your greeting.

Once sent, you’ll see the voice memo appear as part of your chat history.

News of this latest Instagram update comes as the Facebook-owned service recently added Close Friends to its list of features.
