Kendrick Lamar is in the runnings to receive his very first Oscar award for his collaboration with SZA in Black Panther’s ‘All The Stars.’

The Marvel superhero smash hit ‘Black Panther’ won all the plaudits when it broke box office records earlier this year and now Kendrick Lamar has been nominated for an Oscar thanks to his work on the film’s soundtrack.’Kendrick put together the soundtrack to the film with some of his own songs as well as features from the likes of Jorja Smith, The Weeknd and Travis Scott and it’s his collab with SZA ‘All The Stars’ for which he’s been nominated for an Oscar at the 2019 Academy Awards.

The Compton rapper will compete in the ‘Best Original Song’ category against artists such as Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton and Jennifer Hudson, so Kendrick faces some stiff competition if he’s to take home the coveted prized. The last rapper to win the Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ was Common back in 2014 when he teamed up with John Legend for ther song ‘Glory’, which was taken from the film ‘Selma’. Before Common, the only other rapper to claim the trophy was Eminem for his iconic track ‘Lose Yourself’, which was featured in the film about his life story, ‘8 Mile.’ Kendrick is yet to comment on his nomination at the 2019 Oscars, but fans around the world have been sending him messages of congratulations via social media. The Oscars ceremony takes place on Monday 25th February 2019 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
