The idea of Michael B. Jordan as Superman has been tossed around more than a few times, but Variety confirmed that there was a real meeting between the actor and Warner Bros. earlier this year.

The Creed star reportedly pitched a new “vision for the character” to the studio, but Jordan wasn’t quite ready to say yes to the project, the entertainment news site reported. “Jordan isn’t ready to commit to taking on the project since filming doesn’t seem likely to happen for several years and he has a full dance card of projects,” Variety said. “Insiders think that a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023, given that there’s no script and no director attached.”

There has been a lot of confusion surrounding the Man of Steel. Fans have seen several different iterations of the legendary superhero, from Superman Returns’ Brandon Routh to Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill. The studio has had discussions with not only Jordan but other high-profile talents in both the acting and directing space, to see how they can revamp the character.
